Happy Friday | Drop 002 The garage is cooking right now. Stoked you're here for it. 1. The engines got better The facts: xAI launched Grok Bot on August 11. Each one gets its own computer, signs into the apps you already use, works overnight, and comes back to you when it needs a decision. Not a chatbot. More like a night shift guy who leaves a note on your desk. Engines stay swappable. That is the whole point, never marry one. But which engine you put in which bay is the actual skill now. I am mid build on a homebuilder's back office and I am swapping engines partway through, because one of them is just better at this particular work. Did not expect that. So that is the next thing I am making. Which engine for which job, plain English. 2. NVIDIA gave the good stuff away The facts: NVIDIA released a free model you can download and run yourself. Their CEO wrote a letter saying open models mean more competition, lower prices, and companies keeping control of their own future. Hallelujah. The shovel company handed out the maps. Cheaper for you, and harder to get locked in. Engine rented, garage owned. 3. Crypto rallying, agents paying for things now The facts: The SEC proposed a crypto rulebook on August 24 and prices jumped. Senate votes September 15. I am not telling you to buy anything. Boring rules are what let normal businesses touch a thing, and we finally have a draft. Here is the part I am actually excited about. When your agent starts buying things on your behalf, something has to move the money. Google and Coinbase both shipped that plumbing this year. Agents paying agents, settling on a blockchain, no human at the checkout. That is a big deal and almost nobody is talking about it in plain terms yet. Going deeper on that soon. What I am wrenching on An AP agent. Invoices and paperwork for a homebuilder. The stuff that eats several hours, several days a week. Also prototyping an app on the permitting side. Two questions. I read every reply: What got you going this week? What is the one thing you wish you could just hand off? Kids are back in school. Lab is loading up. Have a great weekend! ~ Josh |
Stop babysitting AI. Start orchestrating it. This is where I test what's new, build what's useful, separate signal from hype, and share what actually works across business, design, family, and everyday living.
Hope you had a nice Labor Day weekend! Back to the races. A few of you asked where's this 3rd drop, which honestly made my day :) Here is what happened. I swapped my entire computer. New machine, wiped the old one, started clean. In garage terms I rolled the whole shop into a different building. Here is the part worth your ten minutes. It took an afternoon and I lost nothing. Not because I am organized. Ask anyone who has seen my actual garage. It is because of one habit I picked up the hard...
You're getting this because you matter to me. There are about a hundred of us here to start. Thank you. Plenty got built these last 10+ years. Just not quite out loud. Websites, then apps, then a software company I co-founded, grew from zero to a few million a year, and exited this summer. Somewhere before that, I took part in a feature film (lmk if you need the stream link), and created an 11-song album (lmk if you still need a copy). All of it behind a curtain so to speak. For the first...
