You're getting this because you matter to me. There are about a hundred of us here to start. Thank you. Plenty got built these last 10+ years. Just not quite out loud. Websites, then apps, then a software company I co-founded, grew from zero to a few million a year, and exited this summer. Somewhere before that, I took part in a feature film (lmk if you need the stream link), and created an 11-song album (lmk if you still need a copy). All of it behind a curtain so to speak. For the first time in forever, I'm not building under someone else's roof. So: door open. CurrentlyAustin (officially new silicon valley). 2x girl dad. 4x hens + emerging homestead. And a garage. Not the car kind. A system that drafts, researches, files, and chases things down while I'm at school pickup. I show up & approve. Half of it works beautifully. The other half I'm still yelling at. You get both. What you getShort. Once a week. One thing I built or broke and what it actually cost me, plus one move you can steal Monday morning. If I use a concept my mom wouldn't understand, I've failed. Every other AI account reports from the front lines. I'd rather you ride shotgun and watch me hit the curb. 3 things worth ten minutes this weekStop typing. Talk to it. Every one of these apps has a mic button and few actually press it. Typing makes you compose a careful little paragraph. Talking lets you ramble the way you would to a coworker. Sixty seconds, out loud, on the run. Show it a picture. Broken part. Confusing form. The light on your dash. Photo in, plain answer out. This is the one that converts skeptics. Tell it who you are, once. Every big tool now has a spot to save your context: what you do, who your customers are, how you talk. Five minutes there setting up a simple folder beats any model upgrade. Highest return on this list and it isn't close! 1 thing to borrowThe Garage Map is an artifact on how I think about all of this. No code, no jargon. It's the thing to send someone who needs a simple mental frame. > Hit reply and tell me one thing you're stuck on, excited about, or one thing you want me to tinker on your behalf. I read every one. See you again soon! Josh |
Stop babysitting AI. Start orchestrating it. This is where I test what's new, build what's useful, separate signal from hype, and share what actually works across business, design, family, and everyday living.
Hope you had a nice Labor Day weekend! Back to the races. A few of you asked where's this 3rd drop, which honestly made my day :) Here is what happened. I swapped my entire computer. New machine, wiped the old one, started clean. In garage terms I rolled the whole shop into a different building. Here is the part worth your ten minutes. It took an afternoon and I lost nothing. Not because I am organized. Ask anyone who has seen my actual garage. It is because of one habit I picked up the hard...
Happy Friday | Drop 002 The garage is cooking right now. Stoked you're here for it. 1. The engines got better The facts: xAI launched Grok Bot on August 11. Each one gets its own computer, signs into the apps you already use, works overnight, and comes back to you when it needs a decision. Not a chatbot. More like a night shift guy who leaves a note on your desk. Engines stay swappable. That is the whole point, never marry one. But which engine you put in which bay is the actual skill now. I...
